 Benjamin Yurkiw is a sixth-generation Canadian with 24 years of experience in agriculture, making him a true expert in the field. In 2018, he met Chris, a Brazilian, and they got married in 2020. The couple welcomed their first child, Maya, in 2023. 

  The idea to grow watermelons initially came about to please his wife, who, being from a tropical country, missed the authentic taste of the fruit found in Brazil. The small plantation was an immediate success among Chris and close friends, who were impressed with the flavor. Among the compliments, Ben heard from friends that it would be impossible to grow watermelons in the Canadian climate. This motivated him even more to take on the challenge and prove them wrong.

 Chris Yurkiw, despite having no prior agricultural experience, brings 15 years of valuable professional expertise to Mercado Fresh Farms.
